Bodies... The Exhibition

If you don’t think science can be fun, or if you don’t think Las Vegas is also a great place to learn some amazing facts, than you’ve never been to Bodies… The Exhibition. It’s at the Luxor on the south end of the Strip just north of Mandalay Bay and across Tropicana Ave from Excalibur.

Tickets are $32 and are good for 7 days from purchase date. It is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. With a name like “Bodies” in Las Vegas, the first thing that comes to mind would obviously be naked women or men prancing about a stage, this however is “much more revealing” as a million different reviews have cleverly put it. It’s a series of human bodies, cadavers which have been “dissected” for lack of a better word in order to show the inner workings of the human body. This isn’t a horror scene though, it is completely informative.

These real human bodies can be seen frozen during various activities with parts of their inner organs or blood vessels showing and descriptions of what the parts of the human anatomy do. Yes, the bodies are real. They were all donated by the individual’s will to be displayed in order to further the understanding of the human body. They are preserved using an acetone process then placed in silicone polymer and sealed in a vacuum so the bodies are preserved.

Words cannot really describe how incredible it is to be able to see each of the thousands of blood veins for example in one human body, traveling to and from the heart as the body is in the midst of throwing a football. And each exhibit is equally impressive. Some focus on organs, others on muscle function. One of the most popular scenes depicts two real human lungs preserved, one the healthy lung of a non-smoker, and the other the lung of a lifelong smoker so you can see the discrepancy between the two. There are also fetuses in the midst of development, and you will see the various stages of development.

Some cool things you’ll learn at the Bodies exhibit:
The human nervous system responsible for processing all thought and emotion is faster than the most powerful super computer.
Every drop of blood in your body passes through the heart once every minute.
Scent plays a bigger role than you may know in human attraction, and no, cologne does little to change the natural scent that is the basis of attraction.

Along with the exhibit guests will find plenty of seating to take a small break. There is also a gift shop with various books and other items relevant to the exhibit.
