Lion Habbitat

It’s located right on the Strip on the busy corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd, MGM Grand is one of the largest and most popular hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. It is also home of one of the coolest free attractions in Las Vegas, the Lion Habitat.

They are between 300 to 600 pounds of pure solid muscle, they can jump 13 feet in the air, they can run up to 40 miles per hour, their teeth can rip through bone, and they are adorable! It may be a bit shocking at first, these powerful animals roaming free behind inch and a half thick reinforced glass, but don’t worry the amazing cats are perfectly safe within their $9 million habitat. To make the lions feel at home the habitat is full of greenery, plenty of places for them to climb, and even a waterfall. The lions are actually rotated in and out of the habitat, spending time on a large ranch only 12 miles away when not at the MGM. They are cared for by Keith Evans, an expert in exotic animals, and if you time your visit just right you may even catch a handler feeding one of these incredible creatures or joining them in some playtime.

Outside of the habitat you’ll find crowds of people gazing at the animals at all hours of the day and year round. You’ll also find fun facts about the lions displayed. Did you know the women do all the hunting in the Lion kingdom for instance, and males basically sit around all day unless a predator like hyenas tries to invade their food or territory? Also that these beautiful cats eat together just like your family at home? You’ll find out all kinds of amazing facts at the habitat. This is a great place to bring family during your visit, and is recommended for anyone in Las Vegas for at least a little while.
