The self appointed “friendliest casino in Vegas,” it may not be far from the truth, consistently highly reviewed in this regard by guests and hotel review alike. It is centrally located Downtown in the middle of all of the action.
Gold Spike has seen a number of renovations recently to the room interiors, outside of the building, and on the casino floor. The accommodations are comfortable, it should be noted that Gold Spike is still an older casino despite renovations and this may be apparent in some areas. That said it is often highly reviewed and the majority of customers stay for the great prices and its ideal location in the Downtown area.
The Gold Spike is not one of the busier casinos in the Downtown area, however as with all hotels in Las Vegas booking ahead is highly recommended and they may be full during busy seasons, popular weekends, and through much of the summer. Booking ahead can also save money in many instances.
Gambling
Gold Spike has a decent size casino floor by Downtown casino standards. It is very lively and can become quite busy at certain times of the day and throughout the year. They host a number of table games including all of the classical Las Vegas table games. They many and a large variety of slot machines, and a medium sized Sports Books. Limits are usually very low, much lower than the Strip and comparable to other Downtown casinos. Table limits may vary according to the crowd, how busy the casino is, and the time of year or any special holidays.
Rooms
Gold Spike has a modern décor and has been newly decorated. Everything is new from the carpeting to the linens. They have a number of options for guests including one and two bedrooms, suites, and adjoining rooms for larger crowds as well as view of either the pool or the crowded Downtown area. They do advertise large rooms however the actual room size is comparable to other hotels on the Strip. Most choose Gold Spike for the great price and its location but the rooms since renovations are generally well reviewed by guests.
Price
Downtown is an excellent option for anyone who wants all of the excitement of Las Vegas without having to spend the often outlandish fees associated with staying and gambling on the Las Vegas Strip. For the Downtown area Gold Spike is fairly priced, but is considered by many one of the nicer choices as far as quality of your stay. This is both in terms of amenities and services.
Restaurants
Gold Spike has only one sit-down eatery, however the Golden Grill is a very popular choice both for guests and anyone who is Downtown and wishes to find a great meal for a good price. They have an expansive menu and they are open 24 hours a day. They may also offer special at specific times of the day. This along with the rest of the hotel has seen many recent renovations.
Drinks
While they do not have a specific bar in the classical sense, there is a small bar on the casino floor where one can order drinks at any time. As always drinks are free to gamblers and served by a cocktail waitress, tipping is customary. In addition prices on drinks at the casino bar are excellent and they often have dollar well drinks and margaritas, times and days these specials may be in effect may vary and often this special is not specific to a casino but available throughout the Downtown area.
Shopping
Gold Spike offers no shopping. There is a drug store conveniently located nearby on Fremont Street and there are a number of gift shops nearby as well.
Nightlife
They do not have any specific nightlife however there is a bar on the casino floor and Gold Spike is generally lively and caters to a “party” crowd. It is busy at all hours of the day.
Services
Fremont offers a range of services common at any hotel casino Downtown including maid service, laundry, and luggage. It should be noted they do not offer room service. Shuttle service is free to and from the airport through an outside company and this is not available at every hotel Downtown.

There are no shows or entertainment at Gold Spike. They are located right next to Fremont Street which has live and free entertainment 24/7 and year round, including Viva Vegas nightly.
