Going To Vegas

Portable Edition

Now you can take all the tips, tutorials, info, and diagrams with you when you go to Las Vegas! We used iSilo to create a PDB (Palm DataBase) version of our Website including the map and tutorial graphics, all in a single file you can easily sync from your desktop PC onto your PalmOS or Pocket PC device. No sort of handheld device connection to the Internet is needed to load or use it.

We scaled down some things to reduce the amount of memory the PDB file would take up on your handheld device (about 500K). We also reduced the graphics somewhat to try and minimize scrolling while still being readable. We did not include the pages which were primarily collections of links (the Websites and Cams pages) to eliminate potential problems for those without wireless access.

Note:  Some of the resort and gaming diagrams, as well as the Strip diagram, are still quite large relative to a handheld's screen size. We recommend that you acquaint yourself with the diagrams on our Web pages to get a better overall image of what you'll be looking at on your handheld device.
Here's what you'll need to use the portable edition of our Website:

  • A Palm OS or Pocket PC 2000/2002 handheld device
  • About 1 meg of free memory on your handheld device
  • Version 3.x or higher of the iSilo Reader installed on your handheld device (takes up about 310K) or the ability to download it to your desktop PC and install it on your handheld device

Here's an overview of what you'll need to do:

  1. If you don't already have it installed, download the appropriate iSilo reader to the hard-drive on your desktop PC (link below)
  2. Install the iSilo reader onto your handheld device
  3. Download our site (PDB) file to the hard-drive on your desktop PC (link below)
  4. Install our site file onto your handheld device
Palm OS device-specific instructions are given in purple.
Pocket PC / Windows CE device-specific instructions are given in green.

1.  Downloading The iSilo Reader

iSilo was chosen because it offers readers for several different hand-held platforms and has several nice features that allow for easy viewing of converted Web documents including inter-page links, display of in-line graphics, support for Web-type formatting (bold, italics, bullet lists, etc.) and the ability to combine multiple pages and graphics into a single PDB file.

You can download the iSilo reader for free from their Website. Be sure to download iSilo (the document reader), not iSiloX. Note that they do charge $17.50 for iSilo reader but it does operate for free for the first 30 days.

Pocket PC Users: The iSilo reader is available for three different processor models. However, look for the "Windows setup program" heading on Pocket PC download page and use the iSiloxxxPPCSetup.exe (where xxx is the version number) download link to download the setup.exe file, not a processor-specific .zip file. The .exe file will work for all processors and is easier to set up.

Donwload the appropriate iSilo reader to your hard-drive on your desktop computer. You can bring up iSilo's download page in a separate, smaller browser window by clicking on the this link:

www.isilo.com/download/

2.  Installing the iSilo Reader

Palm

The ZIP file you will download from their site contains the iSilo.PRC file. Once you download the ZIP file to your local desktop hard-drive, use PKZip or WinZip to extract it to the "Add-On" directory on your local desktop hard-drive. For example, for the Palm Desktop software a typical path would be:

C:\Palm\Add-On

Then simply use the "Install" feature of your Palm desktop software or equivalent to set up the loading of the iSilo PRC file onto your Palm at the next sync. Note that the ZIP file also contains a few documentation and sample files which do not need to be synced.

Pocket PC / Windows CE

Be sure to have your handheld in the cradle, connected, and synced before running the iSiloxxxPPCSetup.exe file that you downloaded from the iSilo Web site. It will install the application under the Program Files folder on your handheld and create an iSilo documents folder with a couple sample PDB files under the My Documents folder on your handheld.

During the installation process, answer Yes to the prompt about "...using default application install directory?"

3.  Downloading Our Site

Be sure to have the iSilo reader installed on your handheld device before attemping to load the GoingToVegas.pdb file.

  1. Initiate the download of the GoingToVegas.zip file to your local desktop hard-drive by clicking on the link below.

If a dialog box pops up asking if you want to "Open" or "Save" the file, select Save.
  2. When the Save dialog box opens, save the ZIP file to your local desktop hard-drive (remember where you save it to).

  3. Use PKZIP or WinZIP to extract the GoingToVegas.zip file.

    Palm

Extract the GoingToVegas.zip file to the "Add-On" directory on your local desktop hard-drive. For example, for the Palm Desktop software a typical path would be:

    C:\Palm\Add-On

    Pocket PC / Windows CE

Extract the GoingToVegas.zip file to a temporary directory on your local desktop hard-drive. (You can choose the same temporary directory you downloaded the .zip file to if you wish.)

4.  Installing Our Site

Palm

Note:  The procedure for loading the GoingToVegas.pdb file is the same procedure used for loading program (PRC) files.
  1. Use the "Install" feature of your Palm desktop software or equivalent to set up the loading of the GoingToVegas.pdb file onto your Palm at the next sync (the same way you would set up the loading of a PRC file).

  2. Perform a sync to load the GoingToVegas.pdb file onto your Palm device.

Note that when loading a PDB file, the Palm HotSync software may display the "Install handheld applications" message instead of the "Synchronizing..." message seen with data files for the Palm applications. This is normal.

Pocket PC / Windows CE

  1. Open Windows Explorer on your desktop computer. You should see your "Mobile Device" listed in the left pane. If necessary, click on the + sign next to "Mobile Device" until the iSilo folder is visible.

  2. In the left pane of Windows Explorer navigate to the temporary folder on the desktop computer's local hard-drive where you extracted the GoingToVegas.pdb file to and click on it once so that the file is visible in the right pane.

  3. Right-click on the GoingToVegas.pdb file in the right pane and select Copy from the pop-up menu to copy the file to the clipboard.

  4. Right-click to the iSilo folder under "Mobile Device" in the left pane and select Open from the pop-up menu and a new window will open with the contents of folder listed (the sample PDB files).

  5. Right-click anywhere on a blank area of the window where the sample PDB files are listed and select Paste from the pop-up menu and the GoingToVegas.pdb file will automatically be synced to your handheld device.

Once the file is loaded on your handheld device simply start up the iSilo program and the "GoingToVegas" selection will appear in the list of documents.

NOTE
Because we occasionally update the pages on the site, we have added a "Revision Date" under the menu of links on the handheld home page. If you previously downloaded the PDB file and the home page on your handheld doesn't have a revision date, or the revision date is prior to what is listed here, you'll want to download the current PDB file so you have the most up-to-date information.
The current Revision Date is:  6/24/07

At the top of each of the pages, you'll see the following graphic. This graphic is a tap-able link back to the home page. A menu of links to all pages is also located at the bottom of each page.

Here is the download link:  GoingToVegas.zip  (240K)

Have fun in Vegas !!!
