It happens every year
on the 5th of May, and it’s one of the biggest parties of
the year, and the biggest party for Las Vegas’ large
Hispanic population. You don’t have to be from Mexico or
South America to have a great time though.
Cinco De Mayo
celebrates the victory of the Mexican Militia over the
French Army at The Battle of Puebla in 1862. Often it is
confused for Mexican Independence Day. Mexico won its
Independence in 1821, but France, using the excuse of debts
and a desire to expand its empire, they wished to establish
rule in Mexico and Cinco De Mayo celebrates Mexico’s victory
over France.
The most important
thing to know about Cinco De Mayo is that you want to find a
great Mexican Bar and drink some Tequila. Here are some good
options:
Pink Taco in the Hard
Rock.
McFadden’s at Rio... Yeah it’s usually an Irish Pub, but
they throw a great party for Cinco De Mayo.
Lindo Michoacan on Desert Inn.
Diablo’s Cantina in the Monte Carlo.
Agave Restaurant on West Charleston.
Taqueria Canonita in the Venetian.
Diego Mexican Cuisine inside MGM Grand.
Isla Tequila Bar in TI.
Most casinos on the
Strip and Downtown will have something going on for Cinco De
Mayo. It is always a good idea to book ahead of time when
coming to Las Vegas in the summer, but Hotels should have
rooms.
